World Baseball Classic 2026 Power Rankings: Who Will Take the Crown? (2026)

The World Baseball Classic is almost here, and the rankings are in! But who truly stands at the top?

The highly anticipated World Baseball Classic is just around the corner, with the 2026 Classic set to commence on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET in Tokyo. By Friday, all four pools will be in full swing, with games also scheduled to take place in Houston, Miami, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. This global tournament is known for its thrilling upsets, proving that even with a storied history, anyone can win. Only Japan (three-time champions), the Dominican Republic (one title), and the United States (one title) have ever hoisted the trophy. But this year, as always, the magic of baseball in this high-stakes format means the unexpected is always possible.

To gauge the contenders, 20 MLB.com voters cast their ballots, ranking all 20 participating teams. It was a fiercely competitive race, with the top three teams—the very same nations that have claimed WBC titles before—ending in a virtual tie. Using a points system where a first-place vote earns three points, a second-place vote two points, and a third-place vote one point, one team ultimately edged out the rest. But we'll soon see on the field who truly deserves the No. 1 spot!

Let's dive into the rankings, shall we?

2. United States
* Top MLB Players: OF Aaron Judge, RHP Paul Skenes, LHP Tarik Skubal
We all remember how close they came last time, and that was with a pitching staff that pales in comparison to what they boast now. This is arguably the most stacked Team USA roster ever assembled. The time is now for them to chase glory.

3. Dominican Republic
* Top MLB Players: OF Julio Rodríguez, 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr., OF Juan Soto
The star power isn't confined to the field; it extends to the dugout as well! Albert Pujols has a monumental opportunity to make his case for a big league managerial role by leading the D.R. to their first title since 2013.

4. Venezuela
* Top MLB Players: OF Ronald Acuña Jr., C William Contreras, LHP Ranger Suárez
They were an absolute joy to watch in 2023, going undefeated until an agonizing 7-5 lead slipped away in the eighth inning of their quarterfinals defeat to Team USA.

5. Mexico
* Top MLB Players: C Alejandro Kirk, OF Jarren Duran, OF Randy Arozarena
Their offensive firepower is the key for a team that made a surprising run to the semifinals in 2023. If Mexico's offense can secure a lead heading into the late innings, Andrés Muñoz will be ready to slam the door shut.

6. Puerto Rico
* Top MLB Players: 3B Nolan Arenado, RHP Edwin Díaz, RHP Seth Lugo
Puerto Rico has generated more buzz around the players not on the roster than those who are. Nevertheless, manager Yadier Molina is expected to extract every ounce of talent from this squad.

7. Korea
* Top MLB Players: OF Jung Hoo Lee, INF Shay Whitcomb, INF Hyeseong Kim
After a remarkable second-place finish in 2009, they haven't advanced past the group stage since. However, there's a wealth of talent here, featuring some players MLB fans might not yet recognize and others who will evoke fond memories, like Hyun Jin Ryu.

8. Canada
* Top MLB Players: 1B Josh Naylor, OF Tyler O’Neill, RHP Jameson Taillon
Canada has a genuine shot at advancing out of the group stage for the first time in WBC history. This is partly due to a favorable position in Pool A, where rivals Puerto Rico and Cuba might not be as formidable as in past years, and significantly because Canada has assembled more talent than ever before.

9. Colombia
* Top MLB Players: LHP Jose Quintana, INF Michael Arroyo, RHP Nabil Crismatt
They pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament last time, defeating Mexico in their opening game, but unfortunately, they lost their next three contests.

10. Netherlands
* Top MLB Players: 2B Ozzie Albies, SS Xander Bogaerts, RHP Kenley Jansen
They reached the semifinals in 2013 and '17, only to fall short both times. This year, veteran Andruw Jones will manage his son, Druw Jones, a fellow slick-fielding center fielder who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 Draft.

11. Chinese Taipei
* Top MLB Players: OF Stuart Fairchild, INF Tsung-Che Cheng
This team is, in fact, ranked No. 2 in the World Baseball and Softball Confederation rankings, trailing only Japan. Yet, they had to navigate the 2025 qualifier just to secure their spot in the main tournament.

12. Italy
* Top MLB Players: 1B Vinnie Pasquantino, RHP Aaron Nola, OF Jac Caglianone
They might be ranked a bit lower than their talent suggests, with a roster filled with MLB players and promising prospects under the guidance of manager Francisco Cervelli. This tournament could be a significant showcase for emerging talents like Caglianone, Jakob Marsee, and Kyle Teel, all of whom experienced their first taste of the Majors in 2025.

13. Cuba
* Top MLB Players: INF Yoán Moncada, RHP Yariel Rodriguez
While this might not be the absolute strongest team of Cuban-born players they could assemble, there's still considerable talent on hand. The crucial question remains: will it be enough for Cuba to advance out of group play, something they've achieved in every WBC to date?

14. Panama
* Top MLB Players: INF José Caballero, LHP Logan Allen, INF Edmundo Sosa
While they may not boast legends like Mariano Rivera or Rod Carew on this roster, Panama has assembled a squad with significant big league experience, complemented by some intriguing prospects. Perhaps they are due for a change in fortune after being eliminated by a tiebreaker in 2023.

15. Great Britain
* Top MLB Players: INF Jazz Chisholm Jr., C Harry Ford
This marks only their second tournament appearance, and they are showing clear progress with each cycle. However, their path in Pool B, alongside the U.S., Mexico, and Italy, looks like a particularly challenging draw.

16. Australia
* Top MLB Players: INF Travis Bazzana, INF Curtis Mead
Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 Draft, is undoubtedly the standout player. MLB Pipeline’s No. 20 prospect will aim to help the Aussies build upon their historic first quarterfinal appearance in 2023.

17. Israel
* Top MLB Players: OF Harrison Bader, RHP Dean Kremer, 1B Spencer Horwitz
For a team ranked this low, Israel surprisingly features a considerable number of players with Major League experience on their roster.

18. Czechia
* Top MLB Players: INF Terrin Vavra
The fan-favorite underdogs from the 2023 WBC are making their second consecutive tournament appearance. This is your cue to check out my colleague Michael Clair’s book about their inspiring journey.

19. Nicaragua
* Top MLB Players: INF Mark Vientos, RHP Erasmo Ramírez
This is their second WBC appearance, following a tournament where they managed to score only four runs in four games. However, the presence of Dusty Baker at the helm this time around brings a new dynamic.

20. Brazil
* Top MLB Players: N/A
The Brazilians, returning to the WBC for the first time since 2013, face the daunting challenge of opening their campaign against Team USA.

But here's where it gets controversial... While the rankings are based on expert opinions and team rosters, baseball is notoriously unpredictable. Could a dark horse team like Colombia or Czechia shock the world again? And is it fair to rank teams based on current MLB talent when the WBC has a history of surprising performances from lesser-known players? What do you think? Are these rankings spot on, or is your favorite team unfairly ranked? Let us know in the comments below!
